What is
Shamanic Healing
Shamanic healing is an earth-based wisdom tradition found across cultures throughout human history. Originating from the Tungus people of Siberia, “shamanism” means “to know,” referring to their healing seers.
In a modern context, shamanic healing is a complementary therapy based on traditional shamanic prinicples. It is not about emulating any particular culture but instead adopts the core principles of shamanic work that are shared across culture. It integrates elements of these traditional practices with contemporary understandings of psychology, wellbeing, and personal development.
This work moves beyond analysis and talk alone, engaging the emotional, energetic, and symbolic layers of experience that often sit underneath long-standing patterns.
Geoff has trained in shamanic healing for over a decade, working with two Australian shamans and undertaking further training through multiple international schools. As an academic and practitioner, he also researches the application of shamanic healing in mental health, particularly its integration with evidence-based psychotherapy.
What to expect in a shamanic healing?
Sessions are designed to be structured, focused, and outcome-oriented.
Sessions run for 60 to 90 minutes and follow a clear and intentional process that integrates counselling with shamanic healing.
The work begins with a focused period of counselling, typically 20 to 45 minutes. This is not surface-level conversation. It is guided, targeted, and informed by both clinical training and intuitive insight. At times, themes may emerge in symbolic or metaphorical form, helping direct the work.
From there, the session moves into the healing phase. You will lie down, usually on a treatment table. Geoff will open a sacred space using prayer and sacred smoke, and invite in supportive and compassionate spiritual forces, which may be experienced as ancestors, animal spirits, or other forms of guidance.
Drumming is then used to deepen the process, shift state, and guide the direction of the work.
The healing itself involves a combination of hands-on and non-contact energy work. As the healer works work, they track patterns in the body and energy system, often experienced as emotion, memory, or symbolic material, and work directly with these.
In some sessions, shamanic journeying may also be used. This can involve the healer journeying on your behalf to gain insight, or guiding you through a structured internal process.
The process is finished with integration. This is where Geoff helps you make sense of what has come up, translate it into practical understanding, and identify what needs to happen next.
How this Work Creates Change
Most people experience sessions as deeply calming and focused. During the healing phase, you may notice physical sensations, emotional release, imagery, or shifts in awareness. Some experiences are subtle, while others are more immediate.
After a session, people commonly report:
- Reduced stress and mental pressure
- Greater clarity and emotional stability
- Feeling lighter, more focused, and more connected
- Shifts in patterns that previously felt stuck
This is not a passive process. The healing can create significant shifts, but lasting change often depends on how you engage with life between and after sessions.
For example, in working with addiction, people may experience a period of abstinence that creates an opportunity for change. However, this must be followed by deliberate effort to work with cravings and behaviour.
The same applies across all areas of work. The sessions create movement. You build on it. There are no short cuts.

A Case Study in Burnout
“I am a big believer in talking through issues & problems, however I am also acutely aware that for me anyway, talking only gets me so far. I have a more deep rooted connection to my problems that can only be broken by a more spiritual and holistic approach.
Dr Geoff made me feel comfortable immediately & I felt I could be open and honest without judgement. The energy healing sessions is where I really made my breakthroughs. These healings were incredible. I could feel the negativity & emotions attached to certain experiences literally break up as Geoff was performing the healings and felt fresh & full on energy at each completion. I connected to greater things during these sessions. This then allowed further progress through meditation & gratitude practice allowing me to let go of the things that were affecting me and also the deeper ones I was holding onto
I first went in to see Geoff as a major drinker of alcohol (as a stress reliever), and a very depressed and anxious person overall feeling pretty battered & broken. I am now an extremely happy person day to day, I only drink on social occasions & no longer feel that addiction and the grip it had on me, I am off all medications for anxiety & depression & am following my passions in both a new job and through music.
Dr Geoff’s skills and advice kept working long after the sessions were completed & I was able to continue my journey to health well after I had stopped the sessions through what I had learnt.”
